U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush & CPS CEO Arne Duncan to Endorse Public/Private School-to-Work Program Legislation.
Washington, DC ---- Congressman Bobby L. Rush and Chicago Public Schools CEO Mr. Arne Duncan will announce an aggressive legislative initiative to authorize the Secretary of Education to enter into a partnership
to conduct a model school-to-work program on Monday, March 29, 2004, at Dunbar High School, , 3000 South King Drive, Chicago, IL., @ 10:00 A.M.
Joining Congressman Rush and Mr. Duncan in the news conference and press tour of Dunbars Education-to-Careers (ETC)program will be, Dr. Barbara Hall, Principal, Dunbar Vocational High School, Ms. Ruth Rothstein, CEO, Stroger Hospital/ETC Advisory Council member, ETC members and students, and other educational associations.
Cong. Rush's legislation will also provide for course credits to secondary school students who participate in work-based learning experiences in the public or private sector. The program will ensure that students are paid at least the minimum wage under the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 for work performed in the program.
