Chicago, IL. ---- At Congressman Bobby L. Rushs request, the Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet of the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce, of which he is a member, will conduct an official committee field hearing on The Effects of Television Violence on Children.
As violence continues to become an issue of national concern for American parents, this hearing will explore the possible negative effects on children viewing violent images on television, and whether there is an appropriate government role to regulate such content as indecent broadcasting.
Before implementing regulation, my job along with fellow committee members is to first study to what extent television violence impacts children, said Rep. Rush. In the interim, its everyones responsibility from parents to television programmers to be aware, responsible and monitor viewing content on behalf of children.
The audience for the hearing will consist of students from Neal F. Simeon Career Academy High School in Chicago.
