Congressman Rush And Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr. Organize Emergency Meeting With Local Leaders To Respond To National Crisis In Sudan
Chicago, IL. ---- As follow up to Mondays State of Sudan meeting, Congressman Bobby L. Rush, and Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. announced today their plans to expand their Sudan briefing outreach to city, state and community leaders. Rep. Rush will give an update on what is being done on a federal/congressional level while Rev. Jackson, Jr. will shed light on his recent visit to Sudan. Immediately following the briefing, Rep. Rush, Rev. Jackson Sr. and protestors will rally on the grounds of the Metcalfe Federal Building.
To raise awareness and empathy for the victims of Sudan, we have to educate and organize groups on the homefront, said Representative Rush. As Americans, we must take the lead to influence the world to take action and restore peace for the Sudanese people of Darfur.
This is an informational session to raise awareness on the devastation currently impacting nearly 2 million Sudanese in Darfur and the 100,000+ people displaced in Chad. Presently, this challenging situation has moved from bad to critical. With the seasonal rains underway, Darfur is now the site of the worst humanitarian crisis in the world according to international observers. Over 350,000 Sudanese will perish from disease and malnutrition by the end of the year if the situation continues.
