Rush Statement on the Passing of Congresswoman Louise Slaughter

CHICAGO — U.S. Representative Bobby L. Rush (D-Ill.) released the following statement on the passing of Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter (N.Y.-25):
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my colleague, Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter. As one of the longest-serving female leaders in Congress, Representative Slaughter was a fighter and trailblazer for women’s rights, becoming the first woman ever to chair the House Committee on Rules. She dedicated her life to public service and proudly represented the people of the 25th district of New York. She was a staunch advocate and made it her life’s work to ensure that the American dream was attainable to everyone. On behalf of everyone in the 1st Congressional District of Illinois, I extend my prayers and deepest sympathies to her family, friends, and constituents. May God grant them peace in this difficult time.”
