Rush Speaks on House Floor in Support of Historic Justice in Policing Act
WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Representative Bobby L. Rush (D-Ill.) took to the House Floor to deliver remarks in support of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act (H.R. 7120). Following debate on the floor, the bill passed the House 236-181.
“George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Christopher Whitfield, Chad Robertson, Terrence Crutcher, Philando Castile, Alton Sterling, Bettie Jones, Quintonio LeGrier, Sandra Bland, Alfontish Cockerham, Walter Scott, Laquan McDonald, Eric Garner, Rekia Boyd, Darrin Hanna, Calvin Cross, Leon Brackens, Mark Clark, Fred Hampton.
“These are the names of the Timeless 20. Murdered by rogue police officers, seven of them in my hometown of Chicago, Illinois. Thank God for H.R. 7120, the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.
“There but for the grace of God, goes I,” stated Rep. Rush.

The Justice in Policing Act:
- Bans chokeholds;
- Stops no-knock warrants;
- Ends the qualified immunity doctrine that is a barrier to holding police officers accountable for wrongful conduct;
- Combats racial profiling;
- Mandates data collection, including body cameras and dashboard cameras; and Establishes new standards for policing.
