Press Release
More than $20 million in funding for 1st District passes through Transportation & Infrastructure Committee

WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Representative Bobby L. Rush (D-Ill.) announced that seven transportation projects in the 1st Congressional district, which Rush submitted to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure for consideration, were included in the Committee’s INVEST in America Act, a five-year surface transportation reauthorization bill that represents a $547 billion investment in transportation infrastructure across America.  The bill advanced through the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee early this morning.

“Securing federal investment for the 1st District is a top priority of mine, and as such, I am thrilled to announce that seven transportation projects in the 1st District totaling over $20 million in funding were included in the INVEST in America Act,” said Rep. Rush.  “While transportation infrastructure projects are not always the most glamorous, they have exceedingly direct, concrete, and positive impacts on our communities.

“I was proud to submit these smart and forward-looking projects to the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee earlier this year after close consultation with a wide array of stakeholders.  Collectively, these investments will help increase safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other road users, reduce congestion on the roads, improve air quality, and spur economic development in the 1st District.  I look forward to seeing the INVEST in America Act pass through the House and Senate and get signed into law.”
