Congressional Page Selected From The First Congressional District.

Chicago, IL. ---- Congressman Bobby L. Rush (IL) will formally announce the first Congressional page sponsored by him and selected from the First Congressional District of Illinois Wednesday, December 3, 2003, from 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M., at Hales Franciscan Catholic High School, 4930 South Cottage Grove, Chicago.

Hales Franciscan junior, Mr. Demetrius Harrison, son of Mr. Donald Harrison and Cathy Jones, has been formally accepted in the U.S. House of Representatives Page program. It is a program only for juniors in high school who are at least 16 yrs., of age. Mr. Harrison has a 4.0 grade point average. There are 72 Page positions in the House of Representatives, with the possibility of over 400 Members of Congress wishing to recommend young people to be in the program. All potential pages/students must be sponsored by a Member of Congress. The Page selected from the 1st District of Illinois will matriculate from January, 2004 to May, 2004.

Pages are selected through the Offices of the House Minority Leader, and the Speaker of the House. They act as employees of the House of Representatives. Pages get the unique opportunity to interact with congressional staff, members of Congress, presidential appointees, and heads of State. Other duties include handling legislative materials, and preparing the U.S. House of Representatives Floor for legislative sessions. Pages are supervised by full-time adult employees, and report to the House after classes and work until 5 PM or when the House of Representatives adjourns for the day, whichever is later.
