Health Care

Healthcare is such a critically important issue and I have heard from many of you who have shared your thoughts and concerns regarding the Affordable Care Act (ACA).  While I agree the ACA needs improvement, depriving 24 million Americans of affordable healthcare is not the solution.  As you may know, the ACA contains provisions intended to allow more Americans to access quality healthcare by increasing the primary care and public health workforce, promoting preventive services, and strengthening quality controls, among other things.

The Republican alternative has many deficiencies including eliminating coverage for preexisting conditions and undoing Medicaid expansion; which are just a sampling of what is vital to so many individuals in our district.  Additionally, their cruel and reckless plan would rob too many Americans of the healthcare coverage they now have.

It is my firm belief that access to healthcare is not a privilege, but a right.  Therefore, I am in strong opposition to attempts to deny Americans the healthcare coverage they deserve and will continue to fight any efforts to undermine their healthcare.

Representatives Rush and Porter are particularly concerned with the rapid explosion of dialysis centers in poorer, largely minority, communities.

This bill expands patient access to highly-targeted, precision diagnostics that result in more accurate diagnoses and treatment of diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, so patients can get the right treatment faster.

WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Representatives Bobby L. Rush (D-Ill.) and Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R Wash.) introduced H.R. 3637, the Allied Health Workforce Diversity Act. This bill would provide funding for colleges and universities to make physical therapy, occupational therapy, audiology, and speech-language pathology programs more accessible to underrepresented communities, including those who are racial or ethnic minorities or from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Dunn (R-Fla.) introduced H.R. 3534, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) Transparency and Accountability Act. This bipartisan legislation would require more transparent practices by the USPSTF.

Rush (D-Ill.) voted in favor of H.R. 987, the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act, which included his legislation, H.R. 1499, the Protecting Consumer Access to Generic Drugs Act of 2019 that prohibits the practice of pay-for-delay, where brand-name companies compensate generics to prevent the entry of cheaper drugs into the market.
